Abigail Housing is a charity supporting destitute asylum seekers and refugees in Bradford and Leeds. In Bradford we provide accommodation, food and support for destitute asylum seekers who have been homeless and help them to re-engage wtih the asylum system in order to gain refugee status. We have 5 houses in Bradford, four for men and one for women, housing in total 19 people.
We receive no access to public funds, relying on donations, fundraising and grant applications to support our work.
There are over 800 Asylum Seekers dispersed within the Bradford area. Our aim is to relieve financial hardship amongst asylum seekers, who are destitute and living temporarily or permanently in the Bradford area, by the provision of temporary accommodation, advice, information, support and advocacy. We also, refer residents to appropriate services that can help with their asylum claim.
We have 12 males in 4 properties and 4 females in one property. We are particularly looking for volunteer House Champions, whose role it will be to befriend residents, take them to appointments, help them to improve their English over a cup of tea and to provide any help that will enable them to fit in to their local community.
