Horton Housing developed out of the Bradford day shelter which was first established in 1976. We were registered as a Industrial and Provident Society in 1985. We provide services for vulnerable people who experience: homelessness, substance abuse, mental health problems, physical health issues, social isolation, disabilities as well as refugees, ex offenders, older and younger people.
Our vision is a society where everyone is able to access the services they need to lead a fulfilled life.
Our Mission 'To promote social justice and equal access through the provision of a range of personalised housing-related support and training services designed to deliver self-esteem, respect and independence to people who are disadvantaged by housing and social circumstances, discrimination, financial exclusion and other forms of social need'
Coaches work with people to help them develop their confidence and guide them in to employment. Coaches identify their customers strenghts and weaknesses, and identify and help them to improve upon and strengthen both.
Coaches identify opportunities from people needs, objectives and skill sets. They assisst people by offering constructive criticism for improvement, and ensure their customers are continuing to develop their desired skills. Coaches provide valuable information and suitable pathways for their customers' needs and skills, their interests and qualifications, and their experience.
What we are looking for:
1) To have a good standard of written and verbal English
2) Excellent communication skills including an appropiate telephone manner and people skills
3) A friendly, welcoming and flexible approach and be able to relate to others
4) Ability to use own initiative but be able to ask for help when required
5) Some computer skills, including being familiar with Microsoft Office, emails and database
6) Be reliable and non-judgemental
Desirable:
1) You do not have to have any related qualifications for this role but we would like you to be: understanding, patient, empathetic and have good listening skills.
2) An understanding of the issues faced by homeless and those with mental health and addiction issues.
