#NeverOK Campaign

Bradford Students’ Union believe that sexual harassment is #NEVEROK. We believe that everyone has the right to live, work and study in a safe and supportive environment. The Students Union is leading the #NEVEROK campaign in collaboration with the University Health and Safety Group and PC James Preston. The aim of this campaign is to raise awareness about sexual harassment issues and promote an environment in which sexual harassment is deemed to be wholly unacceptable. We want to enable students to have the knowledge, ability and confidence to take action against sexual harassment. We believe that you should never have to put up with sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviour. You should never be made to feel uncomfortable by another individual. Whether it occurs in bars, on campus, on public transport or online, and be it by someone you know or a complete stranger, we say that this is #NEVEROK. The University of Bradford and the Students’ Union take all forms of sexual harassment very seriously, which is why we are launching #NEVEROK – a campaign against sexual harassment.
Sexual harassment is unwanted behaviour of a sexual nature which:
  • Violates your dignity.
  • Makes you feel intimidated, degraded or humiliated.
  • Creates a hostile or offensive environment.
Sexual harassment can include:
  • Sexually based insults, comments, taunts, songs or jokes.
  • Physical behaviour, including unwelcome sexual advances, touching and various forms of sexual assault.
  • Wolf whistling and catcalling.
  • Displaying or sending pictures, photos or drawings of a sexual nature.
  • Sending messages with sexual comments.
This campaign has been inspired by the work of the University of Exeter and the Student’s Guild and their ‘#NEVEROK’ campaign.
Report and Support
If you or someone you know has experienced harassment or problematic behaviour on campus, you can report this anonymously to the university via the incident reporting form and speak to an advisor in the Students’ Union. The UBU Advice and Support team have trained advisors that can speak to you in confidence and discuss additional support mechanisms to help through periods of distress. Message from PC Preston: ‘I want all students and staff to know that I am here and ready to listen to you should you be having issues on or off campus. I am fully behind #NEVEROK and you can have confidence that I will look to deal with any issue considering your wishes in terms of how it is dealt with. If there are issues with talking to me as a male then I can make arrangements for you to speak with a female officer. I am genuinely here to help and work with the university and UBU to make your experience the best it can be’.
