Abigail Housing is a charity supporting destitute asylum seekers and refugees in Bradford and Leeds. In Bradford we provide accommodation, food and support for destitute asylum seekers who have been homeless and help them to re-engage wtih the asylum system in order to gain refugee status.We have 5 houses in Bradford, four for men and one for women, housing in total 19 people.
We receive no access to public funds, relying on donations, fundraising and grant applications to support our work.
The purpose of this role is to assist the Refugee Sub Group as it directs, guides and supports the Refugee Project to deliver the service provide a befriending/supporting role for our clients based in properties in Bradford (the Destitution Project) and/or Leeds (our Refugee Project). The volunteer will help with finding and joining social and leisure activities, which will help, establish and involve our clients in the community in which they are living. Also, by providing regular social contact, give one to one support.
Minimum commitment level: Once every two months
